Virginia Apprentice of the Year-Danny Morrissey

On February 15, 2024 Danny Morrissey was given the State of Virginia’s highest honor, HVAC Apprentice of the Year.  Virginia Works is working very hard to help enhance the apprentice programs around the state and has a very lofty goal of doubling the amount of apprentices by 2030.  BION is very proud of Danny and all of our apprentices, and the awards ceremony was attended by CEO Josie Geiger, President Don Ripley, Service Manager Dave Jackson, and HR Director Ed Devlin.

Danny Arrived to BION, inc. in 2019 and quickly became a value add.  He had a working knowledge of both Plumbing and HVAC which enabled him to join our Service Department as a Service-based Apprentice.  He drove with our Senior Service Tech, Frank Murphy and quickly gained certifications needed and joined the PHCC Apprentice program for HVAC.  Danny passed with tremendously high scores and used that knowledge to go from an apprentice to his own truck in June of 2022.  BION is very proud as Danny represented BION at Nationals in Cleveland this past October and brought back the knowledge and confidence that will allow him to grow even more.  When Danny heard that he had won, in typical humble fashion, he responded with, “That is so awesome, I am so glad that BION has given me so many great opportunities”.

Danny continues to shine in his role as a Service Tech and takes on each challenge with precision and accuracy.  He continues to ask for additional training in Plumbing and HVAC and is looking forward to growing in these areas in the coming years.  BION Service Manager Dave Jackson was quoted as saying, “Danny always has a can-do attitude and approach to the work he is assigned, he continues to shine with more responsibility, and I am so proud he won VA Apprentice of the Year.”

In 2024 BION, inc. currently has 7 apprentices in both HVAC and Plumbing and our six graduates are all sitting for their journeyman exams.  This is a true testament to the dedication of BION management to long term learning and leadership.  Josie Geiger, BION’s CEO was asked to comment, and she said, “The Outstanding Apprentice Award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of Danny’s effort and continued success.  Danny’s dedication to our trade and the facilities that BION supports are second to none.  We couldn’t be prouder Danny!”
