BION completed a large addition at a local facility. The three story, 90,000 sf addition to an existing hospital presented several challenges, all of which were overcome with great determination and dedication by BION’s experienced staff. The addition consisted of ten (10) new Operating Rooms, a new Sterile Processing Department, new Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Recovery Area. BION had the pleasure of working with HCA’s Reston Hospital during the Observation and Lab Renovation that included creating a thirteen bed (13) Observation space and an intricate Laboratory. The Lab included several island fixtures, acid waste piping utilizing a fusion seal system and required close coordination for rough-in of owner provided lab equipment. Fairfax Hospital awarded Shapiro & Duncan and BION the mechanical construction work for its South Patient Tower. The project consisted of adding a new 11-story patient tower adjacent to the existing patient tower. In addition to patient rooms, the new structure features an ultrasound suite, cafe and the addition of a cooling tower at the power plant.
The project included phased renovation of interior space for a histology lab, offices, IT space and reconfiguration of the existing morgue. It also provided space for a temporary grossing area while the project was under construction. All work outside the renovation space, including the new chilled water piping for a new, custom air handling unit serving the lab/morgue space, was being performed off-hours. BION utilized copper pipe and the Viega pipe fitting system in order to eliminate the need for brazing
BION has completed construction of the Heart & Vascular Institute Hybrid CVOR project. This project consisted of creating a hybrid operating room that results in a CVOR surgical suite and a cardiac catheterization lab in the same space. This combined suite affords tremendous benefits to both hospital staff and patients.
BION successfully coordinated the placement of an air handling unit at Fairfax Hospital, utilizing a 550-ton crane. It required 17 trucks to transport the crane to the job site. A crane of such magnitude was required due to the extensive distance that needed to be covered to safely place the air handling unit. BION was awarded the Inova Fairfax Hospital’s Pharmacy Consolidation with Clean Room Installation Project. The project consisted of the renovation of an existing parking garage at the basement level of the hospital. The renovation included the enclosure of the open parking structure, construction of the hospital’s main pharmacy with automated dispensing, pharmacy staff offices and a clean room.
