Loudoun is the fastest-growing county in Virginia, adding an average of 950 residents per month according to 2016 U.S. Census data. To meet the needs of a growing population, in 2015 Inova Loudoun Hospital launched a five-year expansion plan, with an expected completion date of 2020. BION is honored to be a part of this initiative. Our involvement includes providing mechanical (plumbing and medical gas) systems for the new 14-bed Observation Unit, Surgical Center expansion (adding three operating rooms and a new sterile processing department) and the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, part of a major renovation of the Inova Loudoun’s Emergency Department.
We will also be working in partnership with Shapiro & Duncan on the new 8-floor Patient Tower that broke ground in Fall 2017. Laying the groundwork for this part of the project, BION is working on the new Central Utility Plant that will substantially increase the heating and cooling capacities of the hospital campus.
New Central Utility Plant
Currently underway is the Kitchen/Central Utility Plant Upgrade. BION crews are working diligently to more than double the heating and cooling capacities at the campus. The upgrade includes adding three (3) boilers in a newly-built second floor mechanical room, a supporting fuel system, five (5) new chillers, four (4) cooling towers, two (2) air handling units and fifteen (15) pumps. The new upgrades help pave the way for the 7-story Patient Bed Tower, expected to be completed in Summer 2019.
BION is excited to be part of the transformation taking place at Inova Loudoun Hospital, and will continue to share updates as progress continues. Visit the Inova website to learn more about the full expansion plan.
